7 Tips for Adult Educators in Learning Artificial Intelligence

Various artificial intelligence tools, including speech and image generators, are no longer used solely by computer scientists and technology professionals but by people across all fields of life, including education. Since the launch of ChatGPT in the fall of 2022, AI usage has reached a much broader audience.

Adult educators introduce their learners to new technologies through experience, analysis, and discussions about AI tools. Working effectively with AI requires a variety of skills and competencies, which are addressed in the section on “AI Literacy.”

A set of recommendations has been developed to provide an overview and guidance for acquiring AI usage skills:

  1. Take a holistic view of artificial intelligence technologies.
  2. Find a personal perspective on the topic.
  3. Make artificial intelligence tangible.
  4. Demonstrate the psychological impact of artificial intelligence.
  5. Explain technical and functional understanding as clearly as possible.
  6. Use quizzes for (self-)assessment.
  7. Learn from examples of critical and reflective practices.

Teachers have a special responsibility toward their learners, especially in adult education. They are therefore encouraged to explain the opportunities and risks presented by artificial intelligence and to motivate learners to use new technologies competently and responsibly. Overall, it is recommended to adopt a reflective approach to artificial intelligence in educational activities, with the aim of fostering critical thinking.

AS “Capital”
Chairperson of the Board

Artificial Intelligence. Those who understand it will gain significant opportunities to thrive in a future full of challenges

What is your experience in the IT industry?

I represent the company AS “Capital” and serve as its Chairman of the Board. AS “Capital” is one of the oldest IT companies, operating since September 2, 1992. My experience in managing and developing the company exceeds 30 years.

Why is it important for IT industry companies to engage in continuous learning?

That’s a simple question! Continuous learning is essential because this is one of the most dynamic industries, where significant changes occur every three years. To keep up with the times, one must keep learning.

Which competencies are most important at the management level in the industry?

A manager should have a thorough understanding of the company. Like in any industry, managers share similar competencies, and there are no major differences.

How are information technologies entering the industry, and why is it important to master them?

Currently, the most relevant area is artificial intelligence. Those who understand it and lead the way have great opportunities to thrive in a future full of challenges. If one were to start something new today, the field of artificial intelligence would be the right choice. Development and dynamics are ongoing, as software and equipment constantly change.

What is your vision for the future development of the industry?

Changes will be significant because, as I mentioned earlier, everything periodically undergoes major shifts. I predict that artificial intelligence itself will become increasingly important. Whether it will achieve fame or triumph is uncertain, but we will encounter it very frequently and in many contexts. For example, self-service checkouts in stores were once predicted to take jobs from cashiers, and now their use is standard. The next step in retail could be fully cashier-less sales, where customers enter a store, pick up products, and pay independently. This is a narrow sector, but in many areas, the use of artificial intelligence will bring major changes—for example, in taxi services, translation services, and more.
